Predeployment Training Modules for Corrections Officers
Abstract
A corrections system that emphasizes the principles of safe, secure and humane
containment of all people detained by the courts is a major factor in ensuring peace
and security in a post-conflict environment. The strengthening of the national
corrections system can play a significant role in facilitating the maintenance of law
and order and improving public confidence in the justice system overall. A
functioning corrections system is a key component of the security framework in any
community and, as such, it contributes to public safety. The corrections system
protects the community by providing for the humane and secure imprisonment of
offenders, deterring potential offenders and rehabilitating criminals.
