Developments in United Nations Police Peacekeeping Training
International police peacekeeping has expanded dramatically in both function and responsibility. It is a rapidly growing aspect of the United Nations (UN) peacekeep- ing operations; its role has become complex and essential to the UN mandate. To respond effectively to these changes and associated expectations, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPO) continues to grapple with the importance of articulating and implementing a strategic training model. In the following chapter, we highlight a number of the issues, objectives, and outcomes overseen by the UN DPO in its effort to address the need for standardized training, equitable program delivery, and specialized skill development.
