Registration Form – Online Specialized Training on Child Protection for the UN Military, 18-28 January 2021

Abstract
Online Specialized Training on Child Protection for the UN Military in January 2021 - In 2018 and 2019, the Government of Sweden hosted a Military Training Course on the 2018 United Nations Military Specialized Training Materials on Child Protection, co-organized with the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (DPO), at the Swedish Armed Forces International Center (SWEDINT) attended by about 30 participants from Member States and field missions. Due to the ongoing restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 the course will be delivered remotely, DPO’s Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training and SWEDINT will jointly deliver an online version of the course to be held from Monday 18 January to Thursday 28 January 2021, for the duration of eight full business days. The course will provide specialized training on Child Protection to military officers from United Nations peacekeeping operations (deployed and deploying) responsible for Child Protection, and to national military training officers from top Troop Contributing Countries to the four peacekeeping operations with a Child Protection mandate (MINUSCA, MINUSMA, MONUSCO, UNMISS), including specifications on how to roll out the Specialized Training Materials on Child Protection for the UN Military both in missions and in Member State institutions. The eight-day course will be provided in English for military officers and trainers responsible for child protection. The course will include: the concept of child protection and specific related responsibilities in UN peacekeeping; the legal and policy frameworks of child protection; engagement with children; roles and responsibilities of military officers for child protection; scenario-based exercises; and an overview of best practices and emerging challenges.
