UN Military Specialized Training on Child Protection in the fall of 2020 - In 2018 and 2019, the Government of Sweden hosted a Military Training Course on the 2018 United Nations Military Specialized Training Materials on Child Protection at the Swedish Armed Forces International Center (SWEDINT) attended by about 30 participants from Member States and field missions. In view of the positive results of the training, the Government of Sweden is hosting a specialized UN Military Training on Child Protection during the fall of 2020. Due to the present uncertainties relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, the dates of the Course will be confirmed at a later stage. The course will provide specialized training on Child Protection to military officers from United Nations peacekeeping operations (deployed and deploying) responsible for Child Protection, and to national military training officers from top Troop Contributing Countries to our five priority peacekeeping operations (MINUSCA, MINUSMA, MONUSCO, UNAMID, UNMISS), including specifications on how to roll out the UN Military Specialized Training Materials on Child Protection in-missions and in Member State institutions. The five-day course will be provided in English for military officers and trainers responsible for child protection. The course will include: the concept of child protection and specific related responsibilities in UN peacekeeping; the legal and policy frameworks of child protection; engagement with children; roles and responsibilities of military officers for child protection; scenario-based exercises; and an overview of best practices and emerging challenges.
