Communications related to Senior Mission Appointments

Abstract

This SOP provides guidance on the notification of and, as appropriate, endorsement by Member States, as well as the public announcement of senior mission appointments by the Secretary-General. It also provides instructions on: the preparation of letters from the Secretary-General to the President of the Security Council, informing the Council of the Secretary-General's intention to appoint a Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG)/Head of Mission (HoM) or Force Commander (FC); biographical notes; and, press releases on the appointments of SRSGs/HOMs, Deputy Special Representatives of the Secretary-General (DSRSGs) and FCs. This SOP may be applied to other senior mission appointments, as deemed appropriate.
