Alleged violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in a number of countries were examined in 2000 by the General Assembly,the Economic and Social Council, the Commission on Human Rights and its Sub-commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights,as well as by special rapporteurs, special representatives of the Secretary-General and independent experts appointed to examine the allegations. IN October, the Commission held a special session on violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people by Israel.
